The Grot Rebellion
The Grot Rebellion were my first ever heavily converted guard army project, full of a lots of humour and character the army won the ‘Best Army’ award at Open War 9.

Feel free to browse the old galleries of the models in the army: THE GREAT GROT REBELLION

Anyway that was a long time ago and now I feel it’s time to revive the grots once more. The Grots have been out of action since 5th edition came out since I didn’t like the idea of losing the game on a roll of 5 or 6 when the dice was rolled. The army was built around suicide squads with the 3 vet squads and rough riders. But now that I have completed my Renegade Mechanicus Army it’s time to rebuild the rebellion.

What’s Gonna Change?
Well first off the original army was very infantry based, as you can see from the picture below there was a selection of characterful models for infantry, special weapons, grenadiers, rough riders and vets.

Image

First off we’ll be a complete re-paint as the army was made before foundation and washes so I wanna try out painting a grot with the new stuff and see if it is an improvement on the old ones. If so I’ll be looking to redo the whole army.

The old codex allowed me to parachute the grots onto objective with the Drop Troops Doctrine but with that gone I’m going full mech with them.
At first I was trying to think of a way to convert chimera tanks, and then I remembered I had made a chimera conversion originally which was called the Doom-Vee.

Image

The Doom-Vee was a fun looking model but sadly ineffective and un-needed in the old codex so it was quickly replaced with the heli-cookas 2 deep striking sentinels with heavy flamers. Of course changes need to be made to the old model such as changing the weapons: the old model had the turret that counted as 2 heavy bolters now instead I plan to add a chimera turret on the top to make it easier to recognise and add a flamer at the front, perhaps were the lights are on the left.

Image

But that isn’t the biggest problem, the Poundland toy I got the wheels from is no longer available so I need to find another cheep toy I can rip the wheels of and paint (rubber wheels are a big no). Anyway we’ll see what I find.

What On The Assembly Line?
Command Squad,
5X Vet Squads,
6X Chimeras,
A 2nd Hellhound,
A 2nd Leman Russ,
A 2nd Grot Missile Platform,
2 Grot Tanks,
A Manticore
And a set of Objective Markers.

All of which I can't wait to build. Especially the Doom-Vee Chimera which will be suprising cheap thanks to the 'Leman Russ Upgrade Sprue' GW have released for £6. Speaking of which...

Anyway I look forward to hearing your feedback and suggestions?

Old Models, New Roles

One of the advantages of converting models is that they can easily be used as something else, as long as the model looks right for the role. Anyway I have two of my favourite tanks from the original army and I’m giving them new roles.

Image

First off is the ‘GAZA’ rocket platform in the old codex it was a Basilisk but for the new codex it’s gonna be something different. At first it was going to be a Deathstrike missile launcher but I eventually decided not to do that as it just didn’t seem like it that small rocket could do the damage.

I now intend to use it as a Griffon Mortar as it perfect for representing the Grot bomb with is low strength and ability to re-roll the scatter dice representing the fact the missile piloted.

I also plan to some grot officers that will be gathered around a gaming table calling in air strikes to represent a Manticore, these will be made so that they can be changed allowing me to swap between the rocket platform and air strike scout.

Image

Now ‘The Little Grot’ was by far my favourite but I’m unsure about the effectiveness of Hellhounds in the new codex, so here’s a question: Do you think I could use ‘The Little Grot’ as a Chemdog, surely a grot's cooking from a fast food cafe is bound to be highly poisonous and corrosive. Spraying enemies with the 'sunday special' lol?

Not More Entries!

I've decided not to do anymore entries on this log, I don't get that much feedback and the models aren't as interesting as the Zanatorians.

If you wish to follow my progress and give feedback you can see a log on Warseer that will be updated often. Just click on the link below...
