Ive always like the idea of doing a tanith amry for 40k as i love the books so much. with the old codex it wasnt that practical and under the new one it is more like the tanith regiment so i was thinking of doing a long term project creating an army.
now the GW models for tanith are very limited and OOP or very hard to get and also very expensive thus im wanting to convert most of the army to get the fluff into the models etc but ive never done anything of this scale before and wondered if anyone had any tips or advice they could offer.
my main concern is the cloaks as i am absolutley useless with green stuff but cant seem to find any that i could buy to stick on also i had planned on using catachans as the base of the conversion but having bought some for a necromunda gang i see they are a bit too muscly for my vision of the tanith
so all in all im a bit stuck on the project and wondered if anyone could provide me with advice to aid my project
and ill try to post some pics if i get anywhere with it
thanks Gavin

Unfortunately, cloaks look like they should be easy, but they are so hard to get right.
I can't think of any models off of the top of my head that would fit the Tanith look. You may be best off looking outside of GW's range, maybe Airfix or someone.
Maybe you could try Rangers from LOTR range. Maybe a little too small though.

Have a look at all the plastic stuff with cloaks and use those as a starting point.
Chaos warriors, Empire Outriders, Darkelf Seadragon cloaks, Skaven gutter runners...etc etc
You would then only need to fill gaps with GS and not do entire cloaks......

ill look into it but the trouble with some is they have torsos on the cloaks
i found this when i used the dark elf corsair cloaks on my salamanders command squad
ill look and see what i can find outside of GW as i dont really care about none GW figs as i dont attend tourneys or anything like that

When you find a design you like you can of course create a mold into which you can use green stuff to replicate it. You can then alter the copies slightly each time, building your skills with GS......

Is there a way you could use Cadian bodies, legs and arms (as they would still be lightly armoured) but then using something like elven heads for their heads and long hair they have, plus elven heads would look better when you put the tattoos on (take wardancer faces for example)

i was planning on using elven heads along with some westwind production ones ive seen that would fit in so thats pretty much sorted
with regards using cadians the only part id really consider is the legs as they were no armour in the books hence my original idea of catachans and they have short or no sleeve tops again catachans
id planned on usin gsome shadowforge female models for the female contingent of the regiment and with cloaks and the odd head swap theyd be great just the males hindering the project really
