That looks good. Reasonable magic, a nice mix of troops, ranged stuff but not too much, and a tank. Though I don't the empire list too much.

Not wanting to make extra threads for no reasons, I'll stick my attempt here. Not sure yet whether I can go, but made a dark elf list anyway:

Master (134)
- Armour of Darkness
- Ring of H
- Great weapon

Master (174)
- Dark peg
- Lance
- HA, SDC, Shield
- Lifetaker

Master (177)
- BSB
- Pendant
- Sword of Might
- Dark steed
- HA, SDC, Sh

20 Warriors (155)
- Shields
- Full command

10 Crossbows (105)

5 Dark Riders (117)

5 Harpies (55)

War Hydra (175)

Is that list legal?

I don't know the slot choices for DE but at 1999 points it is 1 rare and 3 special only

Yeah, it's legal. The war hydra is rare, the knights and black guard are special. BG used to be rare, but got moved in the new book. Other than characters, everything else is core.

I could change the Warrior Priest for a Captain on Pegasus with Dragon Bow/ Armour of Metoric Iron/Great Weapon (I would have to take out the Orb of Thunder, a Knight and change it for auto rally bound and a couple of handgunners)

The weakness in the army is its core choices (standard for Empire really), but there isn't much choice there. I think I prefer the warrior priest build personally

What do people think?

Is the biting blade worth losing the 'parry' ability of the regular hand weapon and (magical) shield? I don't think so.

However, if you do change to a Captasus, then go with the Casket of sorcery. Imagine a Necro unable to raise dead, or an engineer unable to cast Warp Lightning.

Very handy.

Cheers,

Pete

The character's mounted, so no parry bonus. The biting blade is a good idea, as it lets the cap hit etherial things for a low price. The stank will be very hard for people to deal with at 1999, which is good.

I'd run more fast cav, but that's just the dark elf player in me talking.

I had thought about the captain with Casket of sorcery - It could indeed be very good in a 1999 game with necros and engineers.

The warrior Priest is mounted and comes with a 1+ save so there is no need for the hand weapon/shield combo (which he wouldnt get when mounted anyway.

Maybe

Captasus + Casket + Enchanted shield + Full Plate + lance (162 pts I believe) is a good option.

I will have to find some points and probably drop the Orb of thunder

Thoughts?

Personaly I would find room for the Rod of Power. Makes for a very versatile magic phase. If you need defence save 2 power dice to use as dispel giving a tasty 7 dispel dice. If you have enough defence already save left over dispel dice to use as power. If you manage to save 3 that could be 3 spells on 3 dice, plus the bound from the Warrior priest and the Doomfire Ring.

Didn't notice the horse.

How much heavy cav models do you have? A few of those makes for a good Empire list. And can guard your war machines against light infantry etc.

Cheers,

Pete

My offering for this event.
Themed on Trees! No Elves allowed. not even ones that masquerade as trees, so no Wildriders, unless I can pick up some Dryads & horses to convert between then & now.

Branchwraith
L1
Annoyance
Murder

BW
L1
Cluster
Befuddlement

BW
L1
Pageant
Muster

4 lots of 10 Dryads, all with Branchnymph

2 lots of 5 Treekin, with Elder

Treeman.
I make that 1998 on the nose.
Gives me 5PD, 6DD & 2 Bound Spells.
A few ranged attacks and lots of hits in combat.
It'll die horribly against massed Warpfire attacks & other magical hits, lacks anything resembling a Dispel Scroll, but should flood the table with nasty combat units that will shred any lightly armoured & low Toughness units.
I need to scrounge some more Dryads & four or five more Treekin.

Units of 5 treekin, seem a bit big, for not much real gain. You can't really put them 5 wide, as they will be too unwieldy to move, and going 4 wide with one at the back seems a bit of a waste.
Why not drop two treekin (saves you having to get as many too) and use the points to take more walking bushes?

Or split your 10 treekin into 2x3 and 1x4?

However 5 can be quite handy, exploiting the move freely through woods to suprise your opponent with charges that they may think are not on.

Cheers,

Pete

5-wide /strong looks very, very scary too! :D
One of them on each flank, with a Treeman somewhere too, means that the Dryads will get very close before they get picked on by magic/missiles, and the Treekin with their T5, AS4+ and Forest Spirit 5+ can soak up more than the Dryads' T4, Forest Spirit 5+ can.
5-wide also means all 5 get to fight against 5-wide 25mm based units and will mullah Bret Lances if they get flanked too! :D

And more likley to get the +1 for outnumber and the outnumbered by fear benefits.
I like the 5 strong units.
