Can anyone tell me if Codex Catachans and Codex Eye of Terror are still valid with the new 40K rules? I know that the current rules don't invalidate the current army books, but at the same time time I think that both of these books are out of print, and I seem to recall a GW staff member telling me you could no longer use the Catachan one. He told me that the way to use Catachans was to use the Imperial Guard Codex and then use the doctrine rules to re-create the style of the Catachans.
Also I can't remember the last time I saw either of these books being used at the club. If anyone could set me straight I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

Firstly, both lists cannot be used in any official tournaments.

You are correct, the Catachans' rules have been replaced, as have the Cadians' by the latest IG codex and Ulthwe & Lost and Damned have clashes with the new Eldar and Chaos codices and are generally not seen as real lists anymore.

The 13th Company can still be used but you will need the current Space Marine codex, Space Wolf codex, Eye of Terror codex and the .pdf needed to bridge the gaps betwwen the first two.

I just wouldn't bother if I were you.

Thanks for the reply. What about unofficially? I am not really that interested in attending official tornaments, and if I did I would take a fantasy army anyway.
I don't have the current Imperial Guard Codex, but it seems that there are things in the Catachan book that I assume you couldn't recreate using the Guard book - although I might be wrong, eg Deathworld Veteran Snipers, Booby Traps.
With the Eye of Terror Codex, the list I am interested in is the Lost and the Damned one. Again, I don't have the current Chaos Marines Codex, but the list still seems useable. The only problems that I can see (again feel free to correct me) would be some of the Demons, which you might need to leave out.
I suppose what I am getting at is, are these lists in the same situation as the fantasy Storm of Chaos ones? They can't be used in official events, but the rules are broadly speaking still viable and could be used in friendly play? (ie at the club). Would you be happy to play one of them? Even if I didn't mention it when arranging the game?

I personally would have no problems. With the LatD, I would suggest using the old Chaos Codex, as it is far more compatible.

I understand where you are coming from, as the list is so characterful, but most tournaments won't run them, and GW have no immediate plans to redo them.
