You're cursed at that tourney Phil! Mike topping at 40k again wont come as a suprise to people, as usual the lack of Fantasy players lets us down. Who came 1st and 2nd? Also you did well to get Nick Langrick as a Merc, he's a top top 40k player, lastly any pix?

Open War isn't really a WFB oriented event. We prefer the campaign weekends, doubles, usually two day events.

That and playing points big enough to bring those expensive toys we have forked out for.

To be honest, if we are going to seriously challenge to win the tournament, then we 40k players need to be on a level with Mike, which is always something that has been frowned on at this club, and yet the fantasy players have no issues with it.

We need to lose this mindset. Yes, we play for fun, yes we can play less experienced people with 'nicer' lists, but we need to learn how to beat each list, how to hone our own lists, and we need to learn to concentrate (one of my biggest issues) and make sure we do what we need to do.

Should we therefor have something like the Carnage Cup a few weeks before the Open War Tournaments so that we get into the mindset of being competative and trying to batter our opponents lists to oblivion.

if so duely noted

If you want to be good at 40k Phil you need more games Phil simple, 1 game a week isnt enough you need 3 to 4, but ive said this before and people just dont want to know.

Unfortunately, that isn't feasible.

At best, I can get two games in in a night, and that rarely happne sdue to people not getting down til later, otherwise I can't get down to GW for games, due to family and work.

And having games at my house happens infrequently due to other people's schedules.

I was really hoping to at the this tounament but it sold out to quickly. It would be nice to get a good team together but we do need to start working as a team and construct good armies. I agree with Lee that we all need more game time. but we perhaps need to be inviting more competetors to the club to have some testing games. Also you get more Intense games if you play three in a row which makes life more difficult. I would suggest that we organise a Club trip to Warhammer world on A saturday. Book some tables and have a mini tounament.

Im in the same camp as you James, i wanted to go but they sold out quickly. More tournaments would be a good idea, anybody know when the next one is? also does anybody know if GW does veteran nights anymore, we could arrange some games there perhaps? Im up for games with anybody at 40k or fantasy anyday after work but Sundays. Thanks

So rather than having people go to these tournaments to have fun and trying to win with unique lists like Adam's Zanatorians, My Mad Cows, Mike's Mass Jet Bike List, Tony's Mechanicus List

We should all play with whatever cookie cut list happens to be the best tournament list at the moment.

Sorry ain't going to happen.

It's not about Cookie Cutter lists, Andy. I refuse to use them, and never will.

My army was designed from the ground up, and honed through a number of games to come to the hardest army I could.

I love fun, friendly games, but we are a big club, there should be room for all types of players.

Its not about cookie cutter lists 40k has evolved past this. If you look at high placed gt armies some are very balanced the players are just dam good at utillising them. I not trying to take the fun out of tournaments but people like Pip and lee and many others would like Gobstyks to be higher placed and that is not going to happen until people play more and have better lists.

i think from the comment i made the point is while we enjoy having fun and playing in our own individual way there are a number of gamers emerging as very competitive players even with 'fun' lists. no one is saying that you cant have fun but there are enough of us who want to enter a tournament to win and we have done before. if there is a divide in the camp over fun and competitive then we could always enter two teams! but i dont see the need for that!

Mikes eldar is a cookie cutter list, Tony like me builds competitive lists but not quite cookie cutter, you presume just because its a strong list that it cant be fun. Im sure James has plenty of fun with his dual lash, Mike does with his wound allocation council, Tony/ Gareth I with his multipule marine tanks and i certainly do with my monsters theyre all cookie cutter lists of some sorts. Thanks
