What an absolute and utter pointless waste. Why spend money on something paint it up and then break it? These people obviously have little in the way of common sense and far too much in the way of money if they can just waste it so freely.

If memory serves, this video is of two Gobstyk members, neither of which fit any criteria suggested, the figures were actually given away, and the "pressing" machine was one at a members place of work..........personally i thought the video was great...and hilarious !!!

it's not as bad a game as everyone seems to suggest. (Just out of interest how many of you who badmouth the game have actually played it?)

What's so bad about it? There's flaws in every gaming system (except maybe chess) - WFB and 40k aren't perfect either!
I've not tried it myself, so I reserve judgement.

I was all ready to buy it, and it was suggested in the shop that I play a demo game, and since Anna was with me, I played a game against her.
She won.
The game is therefore rubbish, and I didn't buy it.
Note to sales people. Let the person buying the game win.

My whateverp'nce worth is that I think the LOTR game system is the best fantasy skirmish system I have ever played. Granted it is simple but it is pretty much argument free because the rules are so straight forward and you are allowed to pre-measure.
For all you who will be thinking, "Well if it's so good, why do I never see you playing it?" The answer is simple. I do play it, just not at Gobstyks because people seem to have decided that it is awful, which it most certainly is not.

LOTR is a nice, simple and straight forward system. I have played it quite a few times, and watched many a game played. I believe Tim P and a freind went to the GT for a few years and both did rather well.
I think it has a bad reputation due to the quality of the miniatures, some of which are quite badly sculpted. If they had made them a 28m size, the conversation possibilities would be amazing. but meh, its a nice easy system for the kids to re-enact there favorite film moments, but its not for everyone.
James and John certainly had a good time destroying the models and if it helps them fair enough.....its cheaper than therapy !!

End of the day, there are quite a few people who play it at club, and quite a few (myself included) who intend trying it more regular.
Myself, I am not interested in playing all the various movie scenarios, but rather as a Wargame. Only time will tell if I enjoy it.

I play it as a gaming system, rather than a re-enactment game, and derive a great sense of fun from it. I like the relaitve simplicity of the rules and think that aids in the good quality of the game itself; too many longwinded rules creates confusion. Also since the rules came out they haven't been drastically altered, just tweaked here and there, unlike Warhammer and 40K that seem to undergo a rather significant re-write every few years requiring the purchase of a new book and some serious rethinks of your existing armies.
As for the conversions at first I would have liked it in a bigger scale, easier to get the detail and some new bits and bobs to individualise them. However, that would lead to all manner of ridiculous conversions and would probably just end up being another generic fantasy game. Also based on the scale and detail of the models it requires a greater degree of skill to paint the models to as high a quality as many get the figures of other armies.
Personally I don't see why everyone has such a downer on it, especially those who have not played it.

Yes Adam I couldn't agree more.
You do require a very large amount of skill to paint these models.
There are that rubbish you need to be a demon winner to make them look any good. Why are GW wasting there time on this pointless range.
Yes I agree I have not played this game. It is simply a matter of time, which is very limited to me, I barely have enough time for 40k. Let alone spending some time on something I really do not have any interest in.
Cheers J

in a simple answer james! Money! LotR is still a very popular game. and has been more successful than other GW games like BFG, i've never played the game myself because it never appealed but i do like the miniatures range and have bought some of them just to paint it's horses for courses really the same with different armies in a way i dont personally like the eldar models so i dont play them! i bought a chaos army because i liked some of the models but they play rubbish (like me!) _________________ just when you thought it was safe for sensible conversation!
