The Editors Champion
(Jarvis can have his Standard Bearer, Pete can have his musician, I want mine to be the one with the pointy stick rather than a trombone or patchwork quilt)
Over the last couple of months there have been some grumbles from a few of us members with regards to how the club is run. And before people get up in arms thinking this is a name and shame campaign, hold your horses! I am not writing in order to defend those of us who are brave enough to help run this club, due mainly to the fact that it has already been done by those who have already volunteered in the past and know how hard it is. It is to those people that I have chosen to dedicate this editorial to.
These are the people who have the true spirit of the club at heart and wish only to better the club as a whole. These are the people who regularly attend and compete on behalf of the club. These are the people who are prepared to give up their time to tutor members in to the workings of their favoured army.
Starting with the Skaven from Warhammer Fantasy, there will be a series of tutorials on specific armies and general tactics. Aimed at improving individual gamer’s abilities and knowledge, the long term goal is to improve the club’s performance in competitions like the club challenge.
So, from the exec, from many community orientated members and from me, thank you to the people who give up their own time to give us this club.

Paintball (AKA Maiming Private Dodd)
On Saturday 10th May Gobstyks went shooting people for real (obviously not real bullets otherwise we all would have heard about it on the news)! Yes, for the first time in nearly 2 years, Gobstykians and non-Gobstykians fought side by side as they tasted the harsh metallic tang of combat! Blood may not have been spilt that day but there were plenty of bruises being dished out!
As can be seen in the photo opposite and the pictures
http://gobstyks.freeforums.org/paintball-pictures-t210.htmlon the forum, good fun was had by all and everyone returned with honour in tact (Except for Si who managed to get hit in the head 3 times!).
Club Challenge
The club challenge (Run by the WPS) is a competition designed to pitch as many gaming clubs together as possible. Based around Games Workshop games (this year), teams of 9 or more compete in as many systems as possible, and individual army lists are handicapped based on the level of difficulty to beat.
The individual results are as follows:
WFB (Out of 76 players)
Andy 8th 11644 for game play
Pete 27th 9778 for game play
Gareth 58th 6491 for game play
Ali 60th 6820 for game play
Anna 62nd 6540 for game play
So Gareth's painting saves him from the infamy of bottom Gobstykian.
40K (out of 50 players)
Will 25th
Putting him squarely in the middle of the rankings, and third for the Gobstyks.
Putting the combined team of Gobstyks and RAFWA (The flying Squigs) 8th overall out of 13 clubs with a mean total score of 13347.64.
Well done lads (and ladies) for representing the club!
Babylon 5 – A Call to Arms
29th May saw the final battle of the Babylon 5 campaign. This exciting new gaming system saw the climax of its first campaign (run by Jonathan Stubbs) fought between the Narn Regime (Will Platen) and the Earth Alliance governed by President Clarke (Jonathan), over the skies of earth itself. A detailed battle report will be posted on the forum with photographs of each turn.
Well done all the competitors who competed and we hope to see another event coming soon.
