Thoughts for a Warriors of Chaos list

1500
Throgg 175
5 Trolls 225
5 Trolls 225 (I'm trying to save some points by dropping a troll from each unit)
5 Chaos hounds 30
14 Chaos Warriors, shields, Full command, Rapturous Standard 274
Goes 6 wide 3 deep with the BsB in the unit. The rapturous standard gives nearly a 1 in 3 chance of holding on insane courage, which along with the BSB re-roll could prove very useful in the 3000 vs 1500 scenarios. Plus it becomes a very hard unit with the BSB in.
Exalted Hero, shield, Juggernaut of Khorne, Mark of Khorne, Chaos Runesword, Army Standard 255
6 ws8 str6 +2 ws5 str5 attacks, 0+ armour save, +1 Cr + break test re-roll, MR1, causes fear. Not bad at all. Even with a forced frenzy charge I reckon this guy has it in him to defeat a fully ranked unit.
4 Chaos Ogres, Chaos armour, great weapons, musician, standard, Mark of Slaanesh 240
Often the best performing unit in my monster army

Sub Total 1424

2250 add on;

Sorcerer Lord, Mark of Tzeentch, Disc of Tzeench, Level 4, Golden Eye of Tzeentch, Armour of Zhrakk, Spell Familiar, Conjoined homunculus 385
3+ ward vs missiles, flies, causes fear, immune to psycology, poison and killing blow, knows 5 of the 6 spells (Important to get the Gateway) and can add d3 to a just failed casting, +1 to cast 4+ armour save and 6+ ward save in combat. Useful for taking out war machine crew, wimpy skinks and the like.
5 Chaos Knights, Mark of Nurgle, Full command, Banner of Rage 315
5 Marauder Horsemen, Light Armour, spears, standard, musician 93

Sub Total 2217

3000 add on;

Chaos sorcerer, level 2, Mark of Nurgle, Chaos steed, Infernal puppet 191
Just adds anothe dispel dice, but most importantly allows me to avoid thenasty effects of the inevitable miscasts when going for the gateway. Not only that the level 1 nurgle spell is a bit of a beast as well! Joins the knights.
Exhalted Hero, Mark of Slaanesh, Steed of Slanesh, Shield, Helm of Many eyes, Whip of Subversion 195
Thought this guy was a bit of fun. Fast cavalry so can join the Marauders. ASF initiative 6, but Stupid Ld8  (sometimes I just can help myself)
M10 and a 2+ save. If his whip wounds a character or monster (with 4 str5 attacks there is a reasonable chance) it has to attack friendly models instead. Interesting to see what happens against Dragons and Stegadons, Carnosaur?
Giant, Mark of Slaanesh 265
Chaos Warshrine 130
Get a good gift and it could be a game winner
Grand Total 2998

Weaknesses will be against big magic, gunline (but as Andy T pointed out gunlines are unlikley as the scenarios require units to capture, get of the board, move into deployments etc whic gunlines cannot do.

Would need to paint up
Hero on Juggernaught
Lord on Disc
Sorcerer on horse
Hero on steed
5 Chaos Knights
14 Chaos warriors
Warshrine

All Change!

This years battlefields rules pack is now on the website..
Armies required
are

1000 point (as attacker in Ambush scenario)
1500 point (as defender in Ambush scenario)
2000 point (as attacker or defender in Breakthrough scenario)
3000 point (as attacker or defender in Rescue the general scenario - see Lustria book "Serpent Gods Due" scenario)

The 3000 point scenario is also used in a doubles Legendary Battles game of 6000 points a side as attacker or defender in the flight to safety scenario - see "The folly of Prince Roderick" in the Lustria book.
HOWEVER
The deployment zone for the defenders in this scenario is 6" x12". Now I'd like to see anyone fit 6000 points into a deployment zone that size
I have e-mailed the events team with this concern and we shall see if I get a reply.

new army lists to follow shortly

1000 point Army
Throgg 175
5 Trolls 225
5 Trolls 225
5 Chaos hounds, scaly skin 35
6 Chaos Knights, Mark of Nurgle, Standard, Musician, Banner of Rage 335

Total 995

This army will be attacking in an Ambush scenario against 1500 of enemy. They set up first in a 24"x12" square in the middle of the battlefield with all troops facing the same direction. I set up 18" away in deployment zones at each end of the battlefield. At least 1/3 of my units must deploy in each deployment zone.
Obviously with only 4 units I must deploy 2 in each, so the Trolls go in 1 along with Throgg and the Knights in the other with the hounds to stop them being lead about by their frenzy untill they can get stuck in good and proper. I go first so assuming the Trolls behave (a BIG assumption) I should be in a position to charge the enemy on turn 2 with both trolls and knights or even be charged on the enemy turn 1  The doubles showed that trolls, especialy with Throgg can take a charge from a pretty powerful combat unit and still hold, possibly win :P

1500 point army
Throgg 175
Exalted Hero, shield, Juggernaut of Khorne, Mark of Khorne,
Chaos Runesword, Army Standard 255
5 Trolls 225
5 Trolls 225
5 Chaos hounds, scaly skin 35
4 Chaos Ogres, Chaos armour, great weapons, musician, standard, Mark of Slaanesh 240
6 Chaos Knights, Mark of Nurgle, Standard, Musician, Banner of Rage 335

Total 1490

This is the army I will be defending with in the Ambush scenario. Basicaly it is desighned to punch out of the Ambush. The BSB and Knights in 1 unit are enough to punch through the most powerful of opposition, and with the enemy being only 1000 points I don't expect there will be too many tough enemy units to face.

2000 point army
Throgg 175
Exalted Hero, shield, Juggernaut of Khorne, Mark of Khorne,
Chaos Runesword, Army Standard 255
Chaos sorcerer, level 2, Mark of Nurgle, Chaos steed, Infernal puppet 191
6 Trolls 270
5 Trolls 225
5 Chaos hounds, scaly skin 35
14 Chaos Warriors, shields, Full command, Rapturous Standard 274
4 Chaos Ogres, Chaos armour, great weapons, musician, standard, Mark of Slaanesh 240
6 Chaos Knights, Mark of Nurgle, Standard, Musician, Banner of Rage 335

Total 2000

This army will be fighting a breakthrough scenario against equal opposition. As attacker or defender. In order to win the attacker has to get 666 points (1/3 the army) into the defenders deployment zone at the end of the game. Characters or Monsters do not count toward this total and as such I have tried to keep my character cost down to a minimum. At 621 points it's pretty low, especialy for Warriors of Chaos.
Big weakness is minimum magic defence. I have only 3 dice and the puppet to try and make those miscasts count. One possible alternative would be to put the sorcerer on foot in with the Warriors and give him 2 scrolls  More sensible but not nearly as much fun.

3000 point army

Sorcerer Lord, Mark of Tzeentch, Disc of Tzeench, Level 4, Golden Eye of Tzeentch, Armour of Zhrakk, Spell Familiar, Conjoined homunculus, Biting blade. 390
Throgg 175
Exalted Hero, shield, Juggernaut of Khorne, Mark of Khorne, Chaos Runesword, Army Standard 255
Exhalted Hero, Mark of Slaanesh, Steed of Slanesh, Shield, Helm of Many eyes, Whip of Subversion 195
Chaos sorcerer, level 2, Mark of Nurgle, Chaos steed, Infernal puppet 191
5 Trolls 225
5 Trolls 225
5 Chaos hounds 30
14 Chaos Warriors, shields, Full command, Rapturous Standard 274
5 Marauder Horsemen, Light Armour, spears, standard, musician 93
4 Chaos Ogres, Chaos armour, great weapons, musician, standard, Mark of Slaanesh 240
6 Chaos Knights, Mark of Nurgle, Standard, Musician, Banner of Rage 335
Chaos Chariot 120
Chaos Chariot 120
Chaos Warshrine 130
Total 2998

This army will fight in the Rescue the General scenario and the Big doubles game. I think it has enough fast stuff to rescue the captive quickly if it is attacker and as defender the BSB and retinue of Chaos warriors should hold their ground and be able to sacrifice the victim at the required time.

You are thinking about it way too much.

I'm just going to squeeze in as many dinosaurs as possible and see what happens.

When are tickets on sale?

News on the Flight to safety scenario. These games will be played on 8x6 tables which means the defenders will have another 2' of width and 2' of depth in which to deploy if my calculations are correct. That gives a deployment area of 3' x 2'6". Just a little more than the area you have in a regular pitched battle on a 6x4 table. Still a squeeze, but do-able. Well for armies with lots of expensive troops like WoC and Lizardmen and High Elves that is. A 6000 point double Skaven, or Skaven and Orc and Goblin might have trouble

Painting completed.

Now working on a Saurus BSB to (a) go in the TG unit behind the Slann to show he is the BSB and (b) enter into the painting comp.

Cheers,

Pete

P.S. Anna is painting a High Elf BSB for the comp too.

With the possible exception of the 1000 point force there is nothing overly competative in there. And the 1000 points is just for dino fun, as it has to take on 1500 points so it'll more than likely lose.

No skink horde/salamander pack/ terradon army of doom here.

It has ranked up units of Saurus warriors, a Carnosaur lord (rather than cheese of second slann mage), only a single Engine.

The list could be much, much worse.

Cheers,

Pete

In comparison to your DE Phil, instead of the possible 28 lances you go with the 16 but have some combat units in there :)

From possible Lizard lists I've written with the book it does seem very tame, compared to what they could have, but still competitive I'm guessing that was what Pete was aiming for :)

Actually the main idea was to field as many of my models as possible!

The standard bearer is now finished. 2 days on one model is most unlike me!

Cheers,

Pete
