The Editors Champion
(Jarvis can have his Standard Bearer, Pete can have his musician, I want mine to be the one with the pointy stick rather than a trombone or patchwork quilt)
To continue on my gaming travels I have recently delved tentatively into the world magic. To be more specific, Magic The Gathering. A card based collection game, MtG is a relatively cheap gaming system and has many facets in its appeal besides price.
The first, being how quickly the basic rules can be picked up by a beginner. This is clearly demonstrated by the 30-page basic rules document (half of which is a glossary for the commonly used keywords). However, do not believe for a second that this makes the game simple or have a short attention-retaining span. The complexities within the basic rules set gives way to the complete rules set; a hefty tome of 146 pages of very detailed and very thorough rules clarifications and definitions. Combine this with a total of 57 additions (completely new sets of cards, occasionally with new abilities), over 3000 completely different cards, gamers playing all over the world professionally (yes, gamers making a living off of their winnings) and then add on the fact that you can get started for less than £20 this gaming system has a lot going for it.
My first experience of this game was through the use of another gamer’s deck. Decks are typically crafted by collecting boxed sets or booster packets and the owner will then sift through what lady luck has given them and try to picture the best strategy from what they have in their arsenal. What inevitably happens is that some cards will not get used and will fall by the wayside. The question then becomes ‘what to do with all the rejects?’ Well, some get recycled into other alternate decks, whilst here at the club we have the ‘commons box’. This is where anybody who does have a surplus of cards can drop them in and help some else out who may be looking for a specific card or cards to improve their deck. The only rule is that you put some back in after you have taken some out.
I think this gaming system has loads of potential and really is open to gamers of all shapes, sizes, ages, species, and temprements.

Painting:
Fielding a fully painted army in each round = 10,000 points.
Fielding any unpainted model in any round = 0 points.
The first two rounds will be random, drawn on 14th August, both games to be played by September 11th, when the final game will be announced.
If you cannot make the 11th September, the 18th September may be available as a spill over, with opponent's consent.
Incomplete games will be awarded by a pools panel. (Which will look at number of meeting attended over the gaming weeks, and current form of that player) Volunteers for the panel should contact me.
Cheers,
Pete

I have just been reading an awesome thread on another forum.
So I thought I would start it here.
So who would win?
The Empire/Galactic Republic vs The Imperium
I’d personally pin my hopes on The Empire/Galactic Republic, but only as long as the Imperium don’t draft any Ewoks into their ranks.
