The Editors Champion
(Jarvis can have his Standard Bearer, Pete can have his musician, I want mine to be the one with the pointy stick rather than a trombone or patchwork quilt)

Last month I touched on the subject of community spirit at the club and how anybody is more than welcome to have a go at any of the gaming systems we have at the club. Well, over the next few months I am going to be that anybody. I will be attempting to ‘have a go’ at all of the gaming systems that everyone enjoys so much and report back to anybody who is interested here.

This month saw me join the fast paced and highly addictive world of Heroclix and Horrorclix. Organised on the whole by Steve Lidget (our events co-ordinator on the club exec) who is a registered judge for these and several other gaming systems. As a judge, Steve is regularly updated of all the new releases and rules changes for the systems. He also ensures that each week the winners and losers all receive some form of prize for their efforts.

For my initial introduction Steve took me to one side and gave me a small demo game whilst the others gamers were in the depths of this week’s tournament using one of the starter sets. He set out the basic principles and some of the more useful tips and tricks.

With my appetite wetted, I was told to go to the wizkids website and register so I could join in next week’s tournament. The registration was simple and painless and allowed me to download some of the rules for the Heroclix system. After doing my homework, like a good boy, I was ready for my first real game (or so I thought). Steve kindly provided me with a simple team to start with so I didn’t have to go to the expense of buying my own this time round.

The game was simple to pick up, however, with all the interesting traits, the fact a character’s traits change when they take damage and the 50 minute cap, the game is fast, incredibly tactical and requires a good memory for all the opponents characters as well as your own.

Overall, a very addictive and thoroughly enjoyable game where all the guys playing are more than happy to give a beginner some (and on occasion a few too many for their own scores) helpful hints. Needless to say, I will most certainly be over in the corner in future joining the forces of good or evil and beating the living snot out of each other (on the gaming table of course!).

Next month I will be delving into the small but incredibly large world or Babylon 5 ‘A Call to Arms’.

Invasion of Ulthuan Round 4 (By Pete Delafield)
This is the pitched battle round.

Now, you can either play as 1x2000 points or 2x1000 points. You can record two results against any other single faction. (Obviously you will want two wins to give you the biggest possible army for round 5)

The faction with highest win percentage of all games played will have choice of opponent in the first battle of round 5.

B5 Campaign: 2007-08 (By Jonathan Stubbs)

Alright, turn four (I think, I’m not quiet sure but we’ll say it is) is completed with battles both won and lost, but no strategic targets changing hands. Hopefully the next few turns will go ahead without too many issues or delays. As of the end of turn four the system now looks as follows:

1. Settled world – Industrial Earth Alliance (Sheridan)
2. Outpost – Mining Gaim Intelligence
3. Space Debris - Ship Grave Yard Narn
4. Space Installation - Construction Yard Narn
5. Gas Giant - Hidden Outpost Earth Alliance (Clarke)
6. Uninhabited World – Water Minbari
7. Settled World – Industrial Minbari
8. Outpost – Observation Gaim Intelligence
9. Uninhabited World – Temperate* Earth Alliance (Sheridan)
10. Inner System Comet - Ice-Rock Composite Minbari
11. Jumpgate - Ancient Jumpgate Gaim Intelligence
12. Gas Giant - Medium Yield Earth Alliance (Clarke)
13. Outpost – Mining Gaim Intelligence
Trade Route

*Temperate world was discovered to be a previously unidentified mining outpost, rich in Quantium-40.

With the Gaim Intelligence establishing a clear lead the battles for this round are as follows:
Narn vs Gaim Intelligence,
Earth Alliance (Clarke) vs Minbari,
Earth Alliance (Sheridan) vs Gaim Intelligence and
Minbari vs Gaim Intelligence.

Notices:
Language
Please do not swear whilst you are in the club. This is as much a common courtesy as it is a rule of the club.

Table packing
It has come to the execs attention that some issues have arisen from the packing away of the tables and trestles. To make things perfectly clear this is the official system for packing these away:
-The long trestles must all be pushed to the back before any of the shorter tables go in (this is due to the space for the legs at the back of the cupboard). If you finish early and are using a trestle, please pack it away so that others are not left waiting. If you finish early and are using a table please do not feel that anyone will persecute you for leaving it.
-Regardless of what table you are using or if you finish early or not, can all members please pack away any equipment/scenery they used and throw away any rubbish you have accumulated (remembering to rinse and recycle any cans you have used).

Opening Time
The doors to the club will not open before 5:45 (even if its raining)

Closing Time
Games are to finish by 9.45pm.

Till Rota
Please refer to the notice board for the most up-to-date till rota.
